Choose a targeted study action from first-attempt evidence while distinguishing original practice results from official scores and writing requirements.
No prior test-preparation course is assumed. Quantitative work relies on arithmetic, algebra, geometry and descriptive statistics. Verbal work relies on sustained English reading and vocabulary in context. If a lesson's prerequisite operation is unreliable, use the related mathematics, statistics, English or logic material before imposing a timer. The purpose is to repair the specific dependency, not to require an entire unrelated course before you can begin useful GRE practice.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| First attempt | The initial response before receiving that item's answer or explanation. |
| Transfer | Applying a learned method to a different case or context. |
| Reserved assessment | Material kept separate from ordinary teaching and practice until a later check. |
| Raw accuracy | The proportion of questions answered correctly in a specified set, without a calibrated scaled-score conversion. |
This is independent preparation with original Verbal and Quantitative reasoning material. It is not ETS material, an official score report or a promise of admission. The official GRE General Test also includes a thirty-minute Analyze an Issue writing task. This course explains that separate requirement but assigns, accepts and grades no essays. Selecting answers to supplied arguments does not certify the ability to compose an original essay.
The learning sequence develops methods through explanation, worked examples, guided questions, independent practice and reserved exits. A correct answer is evidence about a bounded task under particular conditions. It does not establish exhaustive mastery of a domain or an official scaled score. Keep the conditions visible: first attempt or repeat, unfamiliar or familiar passage, untimed or paced work, and whether hints or solutions were seen before the response.
Another way: steps
Identify the skill gap; study the method; attempt distinct questions independently; review the cause of errors; check transfer on reserved material.
ETS's current standard structure has two Verbal sections of twelve and fifteen questions, with eighteen and twenty-three minutes respectively. Quantitative sections also contain twelve and fifteen questions, with twenty-one and twenty-six minutes. Writing comes first; the later measures can appear in different orders. These official counts and times describe the test, not a guarantee that every lesson here reproduces a complete timed administration. The four reasoning sections together total eighty-eight minutes, excluding writing. Check [ETS's current structure](https://www.ets.org/gre/score-users/about/general-test/content-structure.html) for administration details when planning an actual test appointment. The [Verbal overview](https://www.ets.org/gre/test-takers/general-test/prepare/content/verbal-reasoning.html) and [Quantitative overview](https://www.ets.org/gre/test-takers/general-test/prepare/content/quantitative-reasoning.html) define the published question formats and content scope.
The official Verbal and Quantitative measures adapt at the section level: performance in the first section of a measure affects the second section's difficulty. Official scoring considers correct responses and section difficulty. Our original practice is not calibrated to reproduce that scoring process. A hard-feeling question does not reveal an exact score, and an eighty-percent result in one bank is not automatically equivalent to eighty percent in another. Use raw results to locate learning needs, with their conditions recorded, rather than inventing a numerical conversion.
Quantitative practice includes fixed four-way comparisons, five-choice single selections, select-all items and numeric entry. Verbal practice includes reading questions, one- and multi-blank completion, and two-of-six sentence equivalence. Reading also uses three-option multiple selection and direct sentence selection. Multi-blank and multiple-answer tasks require the entire correct response for credit. Our shared fraction input accepts forms such as 3/4; the official interface may use separate numerator and denominator boxes. Learn the mathematical response and the interface conventions without assuming our screens are a pixel-for-pixel reproduction.
Start a new method without a time limit so you can identify why each step is justified. Once you can apply it to distinct cases, add a modest pacing constraint and observe what changes. A learner who makes the same denominator error untimed needs a conceptual repair, while a learner who solves accurately but spends too long expanding unnecessary arithmetic may need a more efficient strategy. Do not treat every slow response as the same problem. Compare your process with the worked explanation and look for a specific decision that could reduce work without sacrificing validity.
Official review features allow movement and answer changes within a section. In practice, rehearse recognizing when a question has become a time sink, marking it for a return pass and proceeding to other work. An average time per question is a planning reference, not a rule requiring identical time on every item. A passage with several questions can justify an initial reading investment, while a simple comparison may resolve quickly. Review remaining time against remaining work. Avoid interpreting one difficult item as a verdict on your whole performance; that reaction can consume time without helping the next decision.
The official Quantitative measure provides a basic on-screen calculator. Choose it for arithmetic that is genuinely cumbersome, after setting up the correct model. Estimate the result's sign and magnitude before entering numbers, then compare the output with that estimate. A calculator will faithfully compute an expression using the wrong percent base or wrong units. It also cannot prove a comparison for every allowed variable value from one substitution. Keep exact fractions when the task requires them and avoid introducing unnecessary decimal rounding into an otherwise exact calculation.
Classify a miss as task reading, domain restriction, evidence scope, mathematical model, calculation, vocabulary, response format or pacing. These categories are tools for choosing a repair, not labels of ability. If you selected a correct pair plus an extra word in sentence equivalence, the response-format error differs from not knowing the pair's meanings. If you reversed a necessary condition, more arithmetic practice is irrelevant. Record the decisive correction in a short note and solve a different case that requires the same distinction before concluding the issue is repaired.
Reattempting a question can reinforce a method and reveal whether an explanation is understood. It is still a repeat. Shuffling options, changing a title or remembering a passage with a different question does not make the material wholly unfamiliar. Keep an exposure note, especially for shared passages. Reserve some questions until after a study gap so the next check asks you to retrieve and apply the method rather than echo an immediately visible solution. The app does not enforce a waiting period, and no particular delay or fixed number of questions guarantees readiness.
Algebra I supports units, expressions, equations and systems; Geometry supports angle relationships, area and spatial reasoning; introductory Statistics supports distributions and data displays. English reading work develops passage structure and contextual vocabulary, while formal logic develops conditional relationships and argument evaluation. Choose the dependency that matches an observed error. A related lesson should answer a concrete need, such as why multiplying an inequality by a negative reverses its direction, rather than become an unfocused detour through material you already understand.
For each difficult or missed question, record the initial response, whether you had seen the passage before, approximate elapsed time and the decisive error. Add one specific repair and the next unfamiliar question used to check it. For example: used the final price as the base; review percent-change denominator; then solve a new reverse-discount case. This record connects an observation to an action rather than accumulating a list of wrong answers.
Keep a correct-but-uncertain answer in the record too. A lucky choice can reveal a gap when you cannot explain why the alternatives fail. Conversely, a small arithmetic slip after a sound model may call for a different repair from a mistaken concept.
Use the course's reserved material when ready for a later check. The questions remain original instructional practice, and repeated attempts remain review. Course completion reports work on these bounded skills; it does not fulfill the official writing requirement, create an ETS score or establish that every future question will be answered correctly. Those limits make the practice evidence more useful because they keep its meaning tied to what was actually attempted.
A corrected repeat is not a fresh attempt. Raw accuracy is not an official scaled score. A bounded argument question does not assess original essay writing. Faster guessing does not repair a missing concept. Similar-looking interfaces do not establish identical administration or scoring, and a finite question bank cannot guarantee admission or a particular score.
Identify the attempt conditions.
A learner scores five of eight initially, then eight of eight immediately after reading solutions.
The second attempt is exposed to the same questions and explanations.
State what improved.
The learner can now recognize or reproduce the corrected answers.
That is useful review evidence.
State what remains untested.
Performance on unfamiliar cases has not yet been checked.
Memory can contribute to the perfect repeat.
Choose the next action.
Attempt a different set testing the same distinctions after a study gap.
Keep the initial and repeated results separate rather than overwriting the first with the second.
Read the observed pattern.
A learner repeatedly divides percent increases by the final value.
Arithmetic operations are otherwise accurate.
Classify the source of error.
The denominator's meaning is wrong.
This is a model-selection issue, not multiplication fluency.
Choose a focused explanation.
Review why percent change compares the change with the original base.
The explanation directly addresses the failed decision.
Attempt a different case.
Use new values and a different context without viewing the solution.
A remembered number cannot settle the new response.
Add timing only after reliability.
Once the model is selected consistently, rehearse efficient paced work.
Pressure should test a method you can already apply rather than hide a missing prerequisite.
Separate accuracy from exposure.
A learner solves attempted questions accurately but leaves four unseen.
The result includes an allocation problem.
Locate the time sink.
One unfamiliar algebra item consumed six minutes.
That single decision displaced several possible attempts.
Identify a transferable response.
Practice marking a stalled item and moving on within the section.
The aim is to preserve access to the remaining work.
Plan a return pass.
Revisit marked questions if time remains.
Moving on need not mean abandoning every hard item permanently.
Evaluate the next practice attempt.
Record initial answers, time and which items remained unseen.
These observations show whether allocation improved without hiding accuracy costs.
Avoid an unsupported score claim.
Report the practice conditions and raw result only.
This original set has no validated conversion to an official scale.
Identify the repeated mistake.
A learner treats some as most in reading inferences.
The issue occurs even without time pressure.
Choose the targeted distinction.
Review quantifier strength and construct a counterexample to the stronger claim.
Decide how to check transfer.
Use a fresh bounded question.
A learner gets every item correct on the third attempt at a familiar set. Which conclusion is justified?
A learner repeatedly chooses the wrong denominator in percent-change questions but calculates accurately. What is the most targeted next step?
Which description correctly states this course's writing scope?
A learner spends six minutes on one hard question and leaves several approachable questions unseen. Which practice adjustment best addresses the issue?
Which statement accurately describes section-level adaptation on the official GRE?
A numeric-entry problem asks for an exact fraction. Which response strategy is appropriate?
A learner selects two correct statements but also one unsupported statement in a select-all item. How should this be interpreted?
Which practice result most directly tests transfer after reviewing a mistake?
A calculator displays a number near 900 for the mean of three values between 20 and 40. What should the learner do?
A learner wants a study record that distinguishes speed from accuracy. Which record is most useful?
A study partner proposes converting 80 percent accuracy on an original mixed set directly into an official scaled score. What is the best response?
Lesson test: one question per skill, one attempt each, no hints. Your answers are checked when you submit.
A learner answers slowly because fraction division is unreliable even without a timer. Which sequence is most appropriate?
After completing a topic, return after a study gap to a reserved question and record the first response before feedback. Choose the next lesson from the error's cause rather than from a raw percentage alone.
19. Complete an error-to-action plan, step 3
Attempt an unfamiliar inference with different subject matter before reading feedback.
The check should require the same logical distinction without repeating the original wording.
