Counting to twenty

Keep the number words in order through twenty.

3. Count words

4. Keep the order

After ten we say eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty. Say them slowly with a partner. These words always stay in this order. A faster voice does not make the count better. Match one number word to one touch or one step.

5. Find a missing place

Lay number cards in order. Cover one card and say the run, including the covered place. Uncover it to check. Pay attention to fifteen: its name can be tricky even when you know which amount it means. If you lose your place, return to a nearby number you know. Nineteen is followed by twenty, not another teen word.

6. Fill the gap: 15, 16, __, 18.

  1. Say the first two numbers.

    Seventeen belongs between sixteen and eighteen.

7. Finish: 18, 19, __.
