3. A path and an amount

A numeral has a shape and a meaning. The numeral 3 names three things. Trace its displayed path slowly, then draw it beside three counters. Start where the numbered dot shows. Some numerals use more than one stroke; lift your finger only to begin the next marked stroke.

4. Check shape and meaning

Zero is a closed loop and means no things. One has a long downward line. Two has a curve and a flat base. Three has two curves. Four has an open corner and upright line. Five has a top and lower curve. Different handwriting styles can be readable. After tracing, try on blank paper. An adult checks whether someone can read your number; following a guide alone does not prove independent handwriting.
