Counting to three

Touch one object for each counting word and tell the whole amount.

Paper packet. Every task here also exists on screen, where it is checked automatically; answers written on paper are not assessed by Nydus. When you are back at a device, enter your answers there.

1. What you will learn

Touch, say a number, and move to the next thing.

2. Ready to touch

Point to one object. Now move your finger to a different object.

3. Words to hear

TermWhat it means
CountGive each thing one number in order.
TotalHow many altogether.

4. One touch, one word

Counting has two jobs: saying the numbers in order and giving each thing one number. Touch the first apple and say one. Move to the next apple before saying two. Touch the next before saying three. Stop when there are no apples left. The last number says how many altogether.

Touch from one apple to the next. Empty spaces do not get counting words.

5. Keep track

Put counted toy blocks on one side of a mat. Leave uncounted blocks on the other side. Move just one block when you say each word. This helps if you lose your place. If two words go with one block, start again slowly. Counting is not a race.

6. Snack helpers

Count pretend snack dishes for toys. Touch each dish once, then show the total with fingers. An adult may listen without counting for you.

7. Count two toy cars

  1. [Two counters for cars]

    Touch the first car counter.

    One.

It gets the first counting word.

  2. Touch the other car and stop.

    Two cars altogether.

    Every car has one word.

8. Count three blocks

  1. [Three counters for blocks]

Point to two blocks, one at a time.

    One, two.

Keep each word with a move.

  2. Your turn: work this step out. Its working is at the end of the packet.
