1. What you will learn

Make pairs to find more, fewer or the same.

2. Words to hear

TermWhat it means
MoreA larger number.
FewerA smaller number.

3. Pair before comparing

Give each toy bear one cup. If cups remain after every bear has one, there are more cups than bears. If a bear has no cup, there are fewer cups than bears. If every bear and every cup belongs to a pair, the amounts are the same. Bigger cups do not count as extra cups.

Two pairs leave one cup.

4. Picnic task for an adult to review

Arrange a pretend picnic for three to five toys. Count guests, supply one place each, compare extra or missing dishes, then adjust when a guest arrives. Tell or show your reasoning. The adult scores counting, one-to-one supply and adjustment: 0 not yet, 1 with mathematical help, 2 independently. Read directions or accept pointing without supplying answers. Require 2 in each area across two arrangements. Record reviewer, date, observations and support; retry after feedback. This human performance is not certified by screen answers.
