Today we use counting to arrange number cards and fill gaps in a number path.

Counting words follow an order. A number you say earlier names a smaller amount than one you say later. To arrange number cards, say the sequence slowly. Place a card when you reach its number. You may start at one if starting farther along feels hard. Number cards can be shuffled, but the counting order stays the same.

Follow the arrows as you count.
Cards 2, 5 and 8 still go in that order, although some numbers are missing. A path with consecutive labels is different: no number is skipped. To fill a gap, check both neighbors. Your number must come after the first neighbor and before the second.
Make a row of toy waiting places. Label them in counting order. Hide a middle label and ask a partner to replace it. Check by moving one finger along each place.
