Where things are in the world and why. Latitude and longitude to fix any place, and what every flat world map stretches; the water cycle, rivers and their basins, rock broken and carried away, the plates that shake and build the land, and the biomes that follow the climate; where people live, how settlements grow, what cities do and what moves between places; and how people turn nature into resources and change the places they live, for better and for worse. Every lesson uses real places and real, dated figures, and the course ends by asking what evidence an explanation of a pattern really needs.
Rocks and the rock cycle, and the weathering, erosion and deposition that shape the land: how to read a specimen, a column of strata or a landscape as the record of a process nobody watched.
